This course will allow students to practice the various areas of reading comprehension in a new and exciting way. In lieu of a written excerpt, students will view a film clip from their favorite animated tales. Then they will use the scene to discuss the target comprehension area (such as main idea, theme, plot development, sequencing, vocabulary via the context, making predictions, character traits, inferences, and more).
Following their discussion, students will interpret the film clip in their own words centering around the theme of each course (dialogue, setting, plot, etc.). In this way, students will practice detailed, organized, and developed writing.
This course is designed so that students can take more than one section: as one ends, another begins the following week. Students can take all four sections or pick and choose those they would most like to focus on.
